A mountain bike tour in the Deister was on the agenda for Dr Arno Meyer's Trend and Adventure Sports seminar this week. After the event had to be cancelled at short notice due to heavy thunderstorms the previous week, the tour could now take place as planned in ideal weather conditions.
The aim of the event was to show students the diverse possibilities of mountain biking for school sports. In this context, tips on riding technique, endurance and riding behaviour in a group were addressed and demonstrated, as well as raising awareness of environmentally conscious outdoor sports.
The route of the tour led from the "MTB-Stall" in Springe via the Panoramaweg to Bad Münder and from there along an adventurous path to the highest residential area in the Hanover region, the former forester's lodge Köllnischfeld. After another four kilometres, the group reached the quarry above Springe and had an impressive view of the Harz foreland. After a rather challenging descent, the group returned to the starting point after almost three hours of cycling, exhausted but satisfied and having gained some new experiences.
