Moritz Lampkemeyer, a student at the Institute of Sports Science at Leibniz University Hannover, presented his research at the German Bundestag as part of the exhibition “Posters in the Bundestag: Academic Freedom—The Freedom to Research.” The work was conducted in the Sports and Health Research Group under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Eric J. Stöhr.
The exhibition brings student research projects from all over Germany to the Paul-Löbe-Haus and highlights the contributions young scientists can make to current social and political issues. In addition to the contribution from sports science, other research projects from various departments at Leibniz University Hannover are also featured. Moritz Lampkmeyer’s poster falls under the topic of health and is titled “When the Heart Doesn’t Deliver What the Body Needs: Insufficient Supply During Heat Stress and Physical Activity.”
The study focuses on how the cardiovascular system reacts to physical exertion, heat, and additional vascular stress. The results show that, under certain conditions, the body’s blood supply cannot be explained solely by increased cardiac output but depends on the interaction between the heart, blood vessels, and peripheral demand.
At the opening on June 25, 2026, the exhibition provided an opportunity to discuss this research with members of parliament, other students, and interested guests. For the Institute of Sports Science, this participation is a fine example of how research in sports and health sciences can influence public discourse. The exhibition will remain on view at the Bundestag through July 17, 2026.
